Work From Home: The most popular platforms
The most popular platforms to Work from Home
It is a fact that the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictive measures have drastically changed our daily lives, directly affecting our habits and ways of working, both professionally and personally! Using modern forms of telecommunications, millions of employees worldwide face a new reality: work from home.
However, given the circumstances, teleworking can be a difficult adjustment for some – especially those who are new to it or do not have the skills needed to work in an increasingly digital society and labour market.
Luckily, there are now many easy-to-use platforms and applications that help us work from home and stay organized and productive whether working from the couch, bed, desk, kitchen, or garden.
So without further ado, we have gathered the best of them for you and present them to you below!
Cisco WebEx is a well-known (professional) platform for teleconferencing, long-distance collaboration, e-seminars, online training, and more. It offers complete (no time limit) audio, video and content sharing and secure web meetings from any browser, mobile phone or video device. Additional features of the free Webex license include:
- Unlimited use (no time limits)
- Support for up to 100 participants
- Possibility to participate with simple dial-in or internet (VoIP)
It is compatible with various video conferencing cameras, webcams and audio cameras, making collaboration through a virtual environment easy and affordable. With your free account, you also get 1GB of storage space in the cloud.
Zoom Video Communications Zoom is a teleconferencing service that allows unlimited 1: 1 meetings and connections of up to 100 people, with simultaneous video and audio exchange.
The necessary software (ZOOM Cloud Meetings) is provided free of charge and varies depending on the means of connection. Participants can access from any device connected to the internet, such as a computer, tablet or smartphone (via the App Store or Google Play).
It provides free and paid services such as webinar video, Zoom rooms, screen sharing, use of web tables and chat and allows unlimited online meetings, either for one-on-one lessons or for larger groups. In the second case, i.e. for sessions of three people or more, the duration of each video conference cannot exceed 40 minutes (in the free package).
The free version of Google Meet was announced in May 2020 and is an evolution (merger) of Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat. For the free version of Google Meet, all participants must be logged in to a Google Account in order to participate (you can create a Google Account with a corporate or personal email address).
The user can create a video conference, invite up to 100 participants and make up to 60 minutes per meeting for free. For additional features, such as international attendance numbers, meeting registration, live streaming, and management controls, Google offers different subscription packages.
The software adjusts its performance according to the network’s speed, ensuring high-quality video calls, wherever you are. New enhancements via Artificial Intelligence (AI) provide call clarity, even when ambient conditions are not ideal.
The free version of Teams offers unlimited chat and search, built-in online meetings and audio and video calls for individuals and groups, up to 60 minutes per meeting or call (for a limited time, you can make up to 24 hours of meeting).
It also offers 10GB of group file storage plus 2GB per person for personal storage and integrated real-time content creation with Office applications – such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
Up to 100 people can attend a meeting; however (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), Microsoft has extended this limit to 300 participants, up to the latest. Anyone with any corporate or private email address can sign up for Teams today, and those who do not already have a paid Microsoft 365 subscription will have access to the free version of Teams.
All the above platforms allow us to communicate from the security of our work from home space in an era that is not at all reminiscent of our social past. These rapid changes in our lives, specifically in the way we work, have brought new data to the way we work and communicate. This means that we must be in tune with these recent trends so that we can take advantage of all the opportunities that will appear before us.
The evolution of technology and the internet has brought development to many timeless professions, giving them a new “breath” of improvement. One of these is the profession of voice actor, which can now be practised by anyone from their private space, as long as they have the appropriate equipment.
Thus, it can carry out all its daily processes while at the same time communicating with its customers and employers through the various platforms we mentioned. If all this sounds interesting to you, you’ve got a job at Voquent, which is constantly looking for professional voice actors.
